Trimming clothing and accessories with rhinestones is a very hot fashion trend right now! It is so easy to do yourself and will express your personal sense of style. It’s difficult to give advice in this category because there are so many possibilities. We recommend using stone size 12, 16 and 20’s. Given you are working on clothing you need to be very careful and methodical. (If you are a teen, make sure you have permission to apply stones before you start your project.) Pace yourself, take frequent breaks, provide good lighting and work with a buddy.

Here’s how to get started

First decide what you want to trim and how much you want to cover. Refer to the table below for help.

• Light trim/outline borders
• Medium trim/ outlining and a pattern of stones across a garment or accessory
• Maximum sparkle

Next decide on the stone size

• 12ss allows for a very subtle look and more complex and detailed design. You will need a lot of stones to get a lot of coverage.
• 16ss are a little bigger and will take less time to apply than 12ss. It is a good size to handle and work with, picks up a lot of light, yet can be simple and pretty.
• 20 ss takes even less time to apply and will pick up the most light. They are a little more obvious to see, but on a lot of applications - that’s what you want.

Next decide what you want to do and draw out a pattern on a piece of paper. If there is a pattern on the fabric, pick out a part of the design you want to emphasise. For example, if there is a colored thread design on a pair of jeans, follow the thread. (Refer to the pocket trim in the gallery.) You can also hand tac a piece of lace to a pair of jeans and rhinestone the lace. (Refer to the jeans with black lace in the gallery.) If there is an embedded flower pattern on a dress fabric, place a small stone in the middle of the flower. You will be amazed at the difference it can make. The dress will come alive. (Refer to the orange dress with hyacinth 16ss stones in the gallery) (Note: 9ss stones come in a limited number of colors.)

Finally select your colors

• We carry over 40 colors. You can choose a color to match your fabric and buy all one color or accent your fabric and mix and match as many colors as you choose. Our kits are very versatile.
